Yoga and trekking in Nepal with Suman

Insurance is not an option

As stated in my Terms and Conditions, when your embark on one of Suman trekking adventures, it is imperative to buy your trek insurance.

The reason is very simple: we are walking deep in the wilderness, for many days, together. If anything happen to you, deep in the wild, YOUR HAVE TO be able to get out of there, by helicopter, and receive treatment in the hospital.

My suggestions
  1. For trek insurance, it is of common use to buy: medical repatriation insurance and guaranteeing the possibility of helicopter evacuation in the event of a mountain accident.
  2. It is of common use to buy a minimum value of USD 100,000 for your travel insurance.
  3. We recommend that you choose insurance policy that pays directly to doctors or hospitals and helicopter charter services rather than settling on the spot and later claiming.

(If your travel insurance company does not provide an upfront payment to the different service provider in Nepal, be sure to receive receipts from each service provider, so that you can later reclaim bills with your travel insurance.)

Analyse your insurance policy

Our other suggestions is to dialogue with your broker and analyse your insurance quote before making your paiement. When talking with your broker, make sure to :

1) Check the amounts guaranteed by the insurance policy;
For information, helicopter repatriation costs between 3000 and 5000 euros.
If you are not insured, Suman will not pay anything and your will have to pay.

2) Make sure to check that your contract does not contain restrictive clauses;
for example, does your insurance that is provided by your credit card is valid ONLY in case of prior payment of you international plane ticket with this same card?
And, even if you pay for your international plane tickets with this credit card AND as well as your Booking with Suman, on this same website, will the coverage apply to activities carried out abroad of your home country?

3) Double check the exclusions of your insurance policies; for example, is there restrictions related to altitude?
Rescues must be able to be undertaken at altitudes corresponding to your trek.
Make sure to read your chosen Suman’s Journey trek altitude, and dialogue with your broker. Also, any restrictions related to health issues ?

Suman is specialized in spirituality and trekking

It is not Suman’s responsibility to check your contracts.
He is specialized in yoga and trekking.
He can only suggest here to make sure you have the best informations possible.
If it were to happen that medical or rescue expenses were not covered, or only partially covered, by your insurance, then, all expenses would be on your responsibility; and I don’t want that, because it is expensive.

Why Travel Insurance is important
  • Protect yourself against unforeseen circumstances such as altitude sickness, accidents, or natural disasters.
  • Ensure coverage for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and evacuation services in remote areas.
  • Obtain peace of mind knowing you’re prepared for any unexpected challenges during your trek.

How to Buy One Insurance Policy

One idea that comes to my mind on how to buy your insurance policy, is to take the insurance with your actual credit card provider.
Note that you will most probably have to buy your plane ticket + our trek (available on this same website) with this same credit card, in order to have a valid insurance policy.

Another idea, would be that you might want to use the service of your family insurance broker.

In any case, we suggest you to do the following:

1) Download the PDF of your chosen Yoga & Trekking Journey with Suman.
The PDF is available on the description of the trek on our web page.
2) Send quote requests to different brokers.
Make sure to include this PDF in your email.
3) Dialogue with your brokers, analyse, select and then Pay one insurance company.
4) Print it and bring it with you in your trek.
     Keep it with your passport

Important Note

In summary, the above-listed Insurance companies is only a suggestion.
We strongly advise you to consult with the insurance company before purchasing any policies.

Again, please ensure that your insurance policy covers your level of activity, altitude, emergency evacuation, medical expenses, and trip cancellation/interruption.

Our expertise lies in spiritual retreat, treks and climbs but not in the nuances of insurance therefore we strongly recommend that you address specific questions to your insurance broker and take time to thoroughly understand the policy you purchase and its exclusions.
